Prevention

Before check of a starter be convinced that the battery is completely charged.


Check without removal from the car

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the electric motor of a starter does not rotate at all at key turn, be convinced that the lever of the selector is in the situation Park or Neutral (on cars with automatic transmission).
2. Be convinced that the battery is charged, check purity reliability of fastening of power cables.
3. If at key turn the electric motor of a starter turns on, and the crankshaft is not turned, the reason is the proskalzyvaniye of the obgonny coupling of a starter. In this case it is necessary to replace a starter.
4. If at key turn the electric motor of a starter does not rotate, but clicks of the traction relay are distributed, contacts of the traction relay, the battery or the starter electric motor (or the crankshaft is hardly turned) are faulty.
5. If at starter inclusion the click published by an anchor of the relay, is not listened, malfunction of the battery, a peregoraniye of a fusible crossing point, malfunction of the traction relay can be causes of failure.
6. For check of the traction relay перемкните on the relay a conclusion for battery connection (+) and a conclusion for a wire from the ignition key (the small plug). If the electric motor of a starter is started, the traction relay is serviceable, and the ignition key, the auxiliary relay of a starter or conducting are faulty.
7. If the starter electric motor still is not started, remove a starter for dismantling, check and repair.
8. If the starter turns the crankshaft, but with very small speed, at first check degree of a zaryazhennost of the battery and reliability of connections. The starter will rotate the engine with small speed also in those cases if the crankshaft hardly rotates or in the engine oil with too big viscosity is filled in.
9. Warm up the engine, then disconnect a high-voltage wire of the coil from a cover of the distributor and connect to weight on the engine.

10. Connect the voltmeter. Include a starter and consider the established indication of the voltmeter. Time of inclusion of a starter should not exceed 15 seconds. Tension on the battery at normal speed of rotation of the crankshaft should be 9 In or a little more. If tension on the battery is equal 9 In, or exceeds 9 In, and speed of rotation of the crankshaft low a little, the electric motor of a starter is faulty. If tension less than 9 In, and speed of rotation of the crankshaft low, probable causes are malfunction of a starter or the battery.


Prevention

The starter assembled with the traction relay is not subject to independent repair, despite existence on sale of necessary spare parts. In default replace a starter or hand over in repair.


Removal and installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the battery from weight.
2. Lift a car front.
3. Designate and disconnect from a starter all wires.
4. On a part of cars for access to a starter it is required to remove the air filter, a broad tank and hoses of system of cooling.
5. On a part of cars with the 4-cylinder engine unscrew bolts and nuts and remove a rack of a soaking-up collector, remove a starter.
6. Installation is carried out upside-down.
